There is no way to earn money other than hard work.
I had a passion for business from the very beginning. In Std X, I had thought of selling packaged wheat flour. I also wanted to manufacture and sell bandages.
Such ideas gave me an insight into entrepreneurial skills. After Std XII, I started selling consumer products.
In 1987, I took an LIC agency, which proved to be a very important step in my life. I left LIC agency in 1992 and started working with my brother in his construction business.
In 1988, I imported Colgate Palmolive products and distributed in the name of Tara Enterprises. Then, I worked as a distributor for the Vidarbha region with Hindustan Unilever. We spread our network to Central India. I would carry products in my car and visit places training people and explaining to them the benefits.
We expanded my business, selling tools, equipment and materials under “Tara Enterprises” and giving valuable facility management services under “Spick & Span Services” respectively. I have offices in Nagpur, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi. We will be opening an office in Bangalore, too.
This journey wasn't easy and I had to face a lot of challenges, the biggest hurdle being finances. Another problem we continue to face even today is workforce shortage. This primarily arises because of the stigma attached to hygiene products. Hence, people were not willing to do that. Thus, we started rewarding the people already in this profession with incentives for bringing in more workforce.
For business, patience and hard work are the key. Thus, there is no way to earn money other than hard work. In addition to this, education plays an important role. I completed my MBA while doing business and ensured I struck a balance between work and study.
